At 26 weeks pregnant I started this blog for my son Rooney. The plan was to document feelings, body changes and eventually to share pictures of our son with friends and family. 4 years later, with the addition of Rooney's little sister, Ailbe, we are now sharing the lives of our 2 kiddos. I'm not sure how long this blog will go on for but as long as people are reading we'll keep posting.

Baby Registry
Rooney Toons This weekend has been rough. Being as this is my 1st child there is tons of stuff you don't know (like your butt could hurt so much because your hips are spreading) and that people don't tell you (like the incredible lack of sleep before the baby is even born!!!). One of the many things I am confused on is the baby registry. When should you do this? I still don't know. However, my husband & I decided to do the bulk of registering this weekend. What a nightmare! They hand us this huge list of items considered "essentials" and we go around the store scanning items we want. My husband was really excited about the scanning. I think it reminded him of his K-Mart days. Anyway, this list is kind of nice but after hour 4 of walking around in the chaos of this store and trying to scan wanted items, we ditched the list. This list actually took me off course from my main purpose of going to the store...picking out, touching and ogling baby clothes. Baby clothes ended up being our last stop & by this point we were just scanning stuff we thought was cute. We got stuck in the bedding section. Why does everything have to be a theme? Why do you want a wall border, valance, wall hangings, lamp shades, everything to match the bedding? I plan on changing that from time to time. And why do some of these sets cost hundreds of dollars when the baby is just going to poop on it? That toy section was absolutely overwhelming as well- I can't even go into it. We totally missed the sweet baby hats, baby socks, booties etc. Ugh I was exhausted, my legs hurt & I was so tired of weighing every option. We were supposed to go look @ baby furniture also but couldn't muster the strength. Thusly, our registry still remains incomplete. And next weekend it begins again..

you are so right about all the baby doo-dahs! Everything is cute, but it won't be long before he's split his mattress open and is pulling out the stuffing (Dana at 15 months) or pouring maple syrup on the carpet (Andrea at 14 months). Let us not forget the toothpaste on the old record player turntable (Casey at 24 months). Then there's that old classic, the paste jar in the toilet (Susie, 28 mohths). Not to be outdone, there was Casey and the football-jersey-in-the-sewer-main-by-way-of-the-toilet incident. The point being, enjoy all the cute stuff for the first 9 months or so, after that, all is chaos. BTW, Old Navy has the most adorable baby clothes
