There's Going To Be Alot Of Pink!

So the cat's out of the bag and we all know the new baby is a little girl that we are naming Ailbe Pippin. I have to admit I am a bit nervous about having a girl and I may have some preconceived notions about little girls. Some are solidly based but others are probably just memories of my own youth. I can already hear alot of high pitched screaming, yelling and whiny talking but I know it won't necessarily be that way. The truth is I know several little boys that do the same thing. Boys always struck me as being easier but I know Rooney's loves of shopping and trying on shoes will probably end one day soon. He probably won't want to go for a mani/pedi with mom or look for cute accessories and if Ailbe gets Mike's gorgeous eyelashes I will finally have someone to put mascara on (Mike keeps turning me down). So a little girl could work out nicely. I already want to get everything pink, and yes, there will be alot of pink!

Despite my nerves this pregnancy has moved along pretty quickly. Next week I will already be 18 weeks along! I think already having a toddler really helps in the waiting. Rooney and I have been quite busy lately with tons of fun activities and exploring some new places. The weather has been off and on here but when it's on we have been getting some gorgeous stretches of sunshine and moderate temps. With conditions like that you have to be outside.

Here are a few pics of our most recent adventures:

Who's It Gonna Be?

Susan and I have been working at this getting pregnant thing for quite a while. So for the last 2 years, we've had a girl name and a boy name picked out. When Susan insists I talk to her belly, I've been careful to alternate between 2 names when addressing the thing.

Friday was the 16-week ultrasound, and we'd actually be able to tell the gender. Finally, we can start using the child's name. So, what is it going to be? Ailbe Pippin? Or Tecumseh Fang?

As much as I like the name Tecumseh, looks like that one will have to wait until we need a replacement for Courage. Cuz we're having a girl!

We also got some photos. One of these is a foot, and the other is a profile. Determining which is which is an exercise left for the reader.

Return of the Potato People

Last week Rooney really grew by leaps. Well he was probably already growing but a few things happened that reminded me how big he is getting. The first instance was when we were recently out to dinner. We coerced Roon into a highchair and in an attempt to keep him busy and happy we tried to get him to color. He normally does not draw or color. When he does it is quick and just a scribble but on this Thursday he drew some circles. When I suggested he make them into people HE DID and then kept going. The picture below are Rooney's first real drawings. I've labeled them so you, and we would remember, what each picture is. Maybe his art classes are really helping.

The second instance was when we were going out the next night. Friday Mike and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. We had a really nice dinner planned at The Melting Pot and Rooney was going to do a sleepover at Uncle Dana's and Aunt Renae's. When I told Roon he was going to spend the night I asked if he was going to miss me. He said "No". Of course I acted a little sad and said "Well, I'm going to miss you". Then he said to me "When you drop me off I'm not going to cry". Ugh! I wanted to ask him "Could you?", but remembered how lucky we are that Rooney is so secure and outgoing. Plus it helps that he loves seeing Felix.

Our anniversary dinner was very good, but I was feeling iffy all week. Mike has not been feeling 100% either so the night ended early and I missed out on most of the Chocolate/Peanut Butter desert fondue. I knew I would eat again so I followed my instincts but it's a loss that may haunt me for a long time to come.
