So Many Blog Posts So Little Time

Every time something happens that I think will make a great blog post something else happens. I suppose that is what happens when you post maybe once a week. The hold up is always pictures. I need to reorganize. Anyway, the first great blog post was going to be about Rooney going from 3-13 years old this last week or so. I think I mentioned before how he was becoming so much more independent but after last week I realize he is conflicted. He's a little boy becoming a big boy with using the toilet, sleeping in a regular bed, school and being able to walk in stores instead of riding in the cart but he's also still a little boy. Mom and Dad still tell him "No" all the time, we expect him to do what we tell him when we tell him and even though he's walking in stores he has to hold our hands. All this had really built up for Roon I think. He has become moody and very argumentative which eventually grew and became of full out tantrum in his Alphabet Soup class last Monday. He has had so few tantrums, especially of this magnitude which included hitting, kicking and hair pulling, that I was really taken off guard. After a very long time out that let us both think about his behavior things have been much better since.

Another great blog post I thought would be the Eulogy of Cheesie. While we were all very sad that Cheesie seemed to be lost, Rooney seemed pretty OK without him. The last couple of night he went to bed just fine without him but I did hear him playing in the morning saying he was going to "Save Cheesie". Even if Rooney didn't need him anymore, the fact that he was lost was driving me crazy, and I wanted to find him. Thankfully last night Mike found Cheeseball. He was in our house all along (sorry Dana but I ransacked your house looking for him) stuffed in the TV cabinet. Last night and this morning Rooney has been happily playing with Cheese and what I thought would be another great blog post...imaginary Charlie.

Charlie is a real little boy. You may have seen him mentioned in this blog and Felix's blog before. Charlie's mom is a friend of mine who also became a friend of Renae's. Charlie's mom watches Felix a couple days a week, so Felix and Charlie became great buds. Rooney loves Felix and soon became great buds with Charlie as well. Now all 3 boys play really well together and you can often hear them all transforming into their favorite Transformers (I believe Charlie started the craze). Rooney has played with imaginary Felix and Kaibre before but Charlie is new and honestly they seem to be having the most fun together. As a matter of fact, Charlie is sitting on the bed with us watching Transformers while I write this post. Charlie, Cheesie and Roon saved many lives last night and this morning and even came up with a crossover idea sure to make millions...Power Rangers and Transformers battle evil together.

I think in more detail these would have all been great posts in their own right. A video clip of Rooney's tantrum or Cheesie and Rooney doing Power Ranger moves or even a picture of Dana's house after I ransacked it would have really been the icing on the cake and so those posts go unwritten. I'm hoping next time I will be able to capture the magic.

1000 Words

Yesterday I think we had our final appointment with the Specialist. We had another ultrasound and the baby looked great. It seems I produce gigantic children though. We all know Rooney is tall and this baby is already measuring 1 day ahead. When I had the ultrasound I was 8 weeks 5 days and the baby was measuring 8 weeks 6 days. That totally explains the tight pants. I'm just kidding (about the gigantic baby, not the pants) but the MD did seem impressed with the babies growth. It was so cool to see the babies legs dangling down and get an idea of what it looks like. The baby is kind of curled still and measures about 2cm according to the MD. The MD pointed out the babies massive brain (his words I assure you) and that was a relief to hear because that big black spot looked like a hole. Yikes!

I tagged all the vital info on the ultrasound for you. You'll have to click on the photo to enlarge it. My first appointment with my OB is coming up soon and hopefully I will get even more ultrasounds soon.

Doesn't Everyone Wear Power Rangers On Their Head?

Tomorrow I will be considered 8 weeks pregnant. Two weeks ago I was worried about the impending morning sickness that was sure to come. I already started getting the extreme tiredness. It seemed anytime I sat down for a moment my eyes needed to close. However, that was two weeks ago and since I'm typing this and not saying it out loud I should be avoiding any jinxing...I am feeling fine. So far, so good and no sickness and even better the extreme tiredness has gone away. Mike is thrilled we are going to bed earlier these days but I can function like a human now.

Rooney is still talking about his sister and brother. He seems to understand that there is only one baby in momma's tummy now (which he knows is his brother) but he is saying that his sister is in his tummy (or sometimes his heart). I'm not sure how that works out relation wise, but he sometimes tells me the baby is hungry or the baby need to take a body rest. He will generally squirm all over me when we lay in my bed together and if I ask him to be gentle because of the baby he will lay next to me and pat my tummy. He will tell me the baby is so cute and that he is being gentle. Sometimes he'll then try to tickle the baby or he might give him a kiss. It is really so sweet and I have no doubt that he will be a great big brother and a great big helper for mom!

As I mentioned before, we officially considered Roon potty trained weeks ago and he has been doing excellent with that. Since I wrote he has only had one accident and that was just yesterday. He has become so confident with going potty now that he has started to tell Mike and I that he does not need help and he can go potty on his own. A good portion of the time he has to come back out and ask us to unbutton his pants and he always walks out with his pants around his ankles. He is becoming so independant (and a bit mouthy) these days. He is often proclaiming he can do something by himself and does not need help. Last week he told me he did not want to take a bath, he was going to brush his own teeth and put himself to bed. Of course Mike and I said "Great!". If he had not already had a shower that afternoon we may have protested more about that but maybe not. He was very determined and he basically did it. Mike said he did read him a story but Roon got himself into bed and that was it not a peep until morning.

This is all very exciting and of course sad (to me). I've been dreading since the day he was born the day he would go off to school. People teased me because it was at least 5 years off but here we are 3-1/2 years later and he's a big boy. He will be starting preschool in the Fall. Just 2 mornings a week but he is excited to go. Many of his friends already go and he has been asking. He wanted to start the day we registered him and of course he expects that his friends April, Charlie and Felix will be with him. He was really sad when I said it would be months before he could start and thankfully his good bud Parker will be there as well. I did sign him up for a few classes without Mom this Spring so that should give him a good taste of what school will be like.

Lastly, I wanted to put a little note in about Rooney and Dad's new favorite past time...wrestling. They have wrestled for quite awhile so that is not new but a little while ago Rooney kept wanting to "Tackle". He was constantly asking Mike and I to "tackle". Of course that quickly became a Daddy/Son bonding ritual and quickly it evolved into full blown wrestling sessions. Lately every night after dinner Mike and Roon will adjourn down to the basement for a little rough housing. Normally the session starts with Rooney saying "I'm going to take you down to Chinatown, Boy!" and it ends with him climbing the stairs back to Mom in tears. Of course he is constantly getting hurt but it doesn't really appear to be from the actual wrestling. One night Mike turned off the lights while Rooney was still climbing the stairs so he fell and bruised his cheek. That same night he fell and hit his ear on the couch. He bruised just the outer rim...weird. This week he got hurt because he was standing on Dad's head and fell.

Sometimes I wonder if he is gearing up to later make an appearance in the Darwin Awards or if doing this stuff while he's young will keep him out? All I know is that the moment someone brings a folding chair into the mix I'm making some phone calls.

Where's The Sister?

Today was a big day. We had our 2nd ultrasound this morning. With this ultrasound we got to not only see the baby's heartbeat but we also got to confirm there is only one baby in there. The baby's heartbeat was so cute. It was a minuscule flutter of light. It took me a little while to see it but it was so cool when I finally did.

We've been telling Rooney (before the 2nd ultrasound) that we're pretty sure there was only 1 baby. He thinks the baby is a boy and has mentioned his brother. Then he will often ask "What happened to my sister?". It is so sweet and sad. I've just been telling him that she had to go home.

Here's the latest picture. The baby is on the top between the crosses. I'm not sure if you'll be able to tell without holding the ultrasounds side by side but the baby and the sac are considerably bigger now. Of course, I didn't need the picture to tell me that since my pants are already getting tighter.
